Organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, the awards are marked against three central criteria - horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.
An RHS judge said: "Bangor like many seaside resorts has to compete more and more for the discerning visitor, who wants to spend their leisure time in a clean and inviting environment. If first impressions account for anything from the minute you enter this resort it's signature as a floral Town reach out to your every sense.
"Swathes of modern planting couple with more traditional baskets and planters adorn every corner. The recent development of a new leisure centre adjacent to the excellent walled garden provide something for everyone young and old. After a number of years in the competition, it gives the judges great pleasure in awarding a much sought after Gold medal to this golden resort, well done to all."
